If you are an experienced pre-workout junkie and what to take your workout (and pre-workout) to the next level give APS Nutrition’s Mesomorph pre-workout a try. It is an extremely potent workout that features Carnosine/Nitric Oxide Complex, a Cell Volumizing ATP Matrix, and a Neuro-Energized Stimulant Matrix. These combined make for an intense workout, and to make it even better you have a plentiful amount of flavors to choose from. Ten different flavors to be exact. Pink lemonade, rocket pop, pineapple, and cotton candy are just some of your options. Now lets dive deeper into what all of this means.

I get way to excited over pre-workout. Just ask my roommate, Jesse. After sending me a screenshot of his Mesomorph order confirmation I immediately asked to give it a try (we always are trading supplements) and his answer was, “Of course, if I can have a scoop of Breaking Point (my pre-workout)”. The deal was sealed, and the day it came in Jesse walked in dripping with sweat talking about how awesome it was. I was already pumped, and seeing his reaction got me even more jacked. So, obviously the first question I asked was what flavor he has, because no one wants to drink a gross pre-workout. One thing you all should know about Jesse is he doesn’t mess around when it comes to supplement flavors. He always seems to choose the best one. This occasion was no different. He ordered the Pink Lemonade flavor, and I gotta say it tastes amazing. It mixes extremely well and has that lemonade stand down the street taste. Like a lot of other pre-workouts it has a chalky undertone, but it is nothing to crazy. Overall I was super happy with the flavor.

If you recall early I mentioned the Carnosine/Nitric Oxide Complex, the Cell Volumizing ATP Matrix, and the Neuro-Energized Stimulant Matrix so now we are going to go over what the heck all that means, and why it should matter.

Carnosine/Nitric Oxide Matrix: This consists of 6500mg of Beta-alanine, citrulline malate, and arginine alpha ketoglutarate (AAKG). It doesn’t give exact counts for each ingredient on its nutrition label, but in the suggested use it says to have 4000mg of Beta-alanine, so between the citrulline malate and AAKG there must be 2500mg between the both of them. As you can guess from the name, or you may already know, that these ingredients increase the nitric oxide in the blood. This enlarges the veins so your muscle receive more blood and oxygen. The more oxygen the muscles receive the better. Carnosine is formed by beta-alanine and the essential amino l-histidine combining. Carnosine is beneficial because it flushes the muscles of ammonia that has built up, and it lowers the acidity levels in the muscle. When muscles contract their acidity level rises. The higher the acidic levels in muscles the less they will contract.

Cell Volumizing ATP Matrix: This consists of 4500 mg Di-Creatine malate, L-taurine, Creatine Nitrate, Ascorbic Acid, Creatinol-o-phosphate, and Agmatine sulfate. ATP or Adenosine triphosphate is always described as the energy currency in our cells. This is why Mesomorph has creatine in it. Creatine is stored in the muscles and helps the body create this ATP. L-taurine is an amino acid that improves cognitive functions. This will help with staying focused during your workout. Agmatine sulfate is considered to be a neurotransmitter and modulator. It increases nutrient delivery and recovery, which means that the supplements you take with have a better effect and will be sustained longer. Finally, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is a powerful antioxidant. It has been proven that high dosage of vitamin C can increase physical performance. Ascorbic acid can also augment nitric oxide production.

Neuro-Energized Stimulant Matrix: This consists of 1870mg of glucoronolactone, methylxanithine anhydrous, naringin, and geranaburn (DMAA). Just like it sounds this is where the neuro-stimulants are going to be. Methylxanithine, otherwise know as caffeine, is a stimulant. As well as DMAA, however DMAA is extremely powerful. Naringin is a compound derived from grapefruits, and it possibly improves energy levels and weight loss. Glucoronolactone help regulate the formation of glycogen in the body, and it may increase exercise endurance.

Now that we have an understanding of the ingredients, how did they effect my workout? To start off, I could feel the beta-alanine after drinking it. This is because beta-alanine is what causes the red hot itchy feelings. Im use to beta-alanine, so I hardly get that sensation anymore, but I still could feel a little something. I can imagine someone who is not use to it would get the itchy feelings for sure, however it usually lasts for 10 minutes or so and then disappears. I also felt an intense focus during my workout, and it lasted for a couple hours after my workout as well. The stimulants used would also be extremely intense for someone who was not use to them. Like I’ve stated before, I love pre-workout and have taken plenty of them. I did the full scoop of Mesomorph and didn’t feel to stimulated. So, it would be wise to test your tolerance before consuming a whole scoop if you are not already use to intense pre-workout. This being said I thought it out performed my expectations.
